What is a BMS system in HVAC?
How can a Building Management System (BMS) optimize your store’s HVAC and lighting for maximum efficiency?
That’s the question we’ll try to answer in this article, exploring the use case of a retailer with around 300 stores that has implemented our innovative eController solution, which optimises energy management through the control of HVAC and lighting systems.
Indeed, we know that in today’s competitive and fast-paced business environment, effective energy management has become a priority for companies seeking to reduce costs and promote sustainability.
The eController solution is the best way of doing this.

BMS to control HVAC and lighting systems
Use Case: 280 m² Store
This retailer was looking to improve the energy efficiency of its stores and had implemented our eController solution to optimise lighting and HVAC systems.
The main objectives of this project are to reduce energy waste and ensure optimal equipment performance. The store’s energy management relies on a building management system (BMS) to control HVAC and lighting systems.
Wireless sensors have been installed to measure comfort parameters such as temperature, humidity and occupancy, allowing automatic adjustments based on real-time data. This optimises energy use without compromising comfort.
Energy Savings
The implementation of the eController has resulted in significant energy savings. For example, an 18% saving was achieved by switching off the HVAC system one hour earlier and adjusting the summer and winter set points.
The optimal use of HVAC systems and the implementation of strategies such as reducing temperature set points have contributed to a significant reduction in the store’s energy consumption, thereby reducing operating costs and contributing to more sustainable energy management.

Solution Installed: eController
Hardware
The eController system consists of several key components.
Gateway
An on-site device that coordinates the interaction of all controllers and sensors and ensures real-time data exchange with Energis.Cloud.

Controller Devices
Wireless devices that allow remote control of HVAC and lighting systems.
Sensors
Wireless sensors that measure comfort parameters and provide the data needed for informed decision-making.
Software and Dashboarding
The eController dashboards provide an overview of comfort, occupancy, HVAC and lighting values across multiple sites. They include maps showing current ambient temperatures, temperature setpoints, HVAC mode, fan speed and lighting status. Historical comfort charts and occupancy heat maps provide valuable insight for data-driven decision making.
This comprehensive view is part of a fully integrated automation solution that enables seamless control of building systems.
